I looked at the lame Haynes and Chilton manuals and neither one mentions this important little problem. ![]() ![]() ![]() Why ?īecause the timing belt pulley that bolts to the front of the camshaft is slotted so that it can be installed two (2) different ways, which means that timing is all wrong if you pick the wrong one. If it was going to crash it would have done so. I would say (after 3 days of spinning this SOB, that it does not crash valves. I also read contradictory info on whether this engine is interference or not. The crank timing belt pulley was loose because the key sheared in the slot of the crankshaft. I just went thru hell and back working on a 96 X-90 with the 1.6L 16 valve engine.
